Kindergarten and Pre-K
The Kindergarten and Pre-K students started February with art projects celebrating Groundhog Day. They learned about light and shadows, and made a picture demonstrating where a shadow would fall depending on the placement of a light source.
For Valentine's Day, Passages hosted a "Sweet and Greet" for parents, teachers and students. The Kindergarten classes created artwork with a theme of love, and their creations were used as decorations for this fun event.
Grades 1 & 2
First and second graders will be learning about Tibetan Prayer Flags and the meaning behind their colors and images. They will create a banner of flags to take home. 
The students will begin a project for Black History Month that defines and highlights story quilts. They will look at story quilts and will try to make their own quilt square pattern to become part of a large classroom quilt.
Grades 3 & 4
Third and Fourth Graders will finish their African unit by creating a fun paper animal mask. After this project, they will begin a project for Black History Month. The students will look at work by Romare Bearden, and will create collage pictures inspired by his work. The students will create images to illustrate the Maya Angelou poem, Life Doesn't Frighten Me.

Grades 5 & 6
The Fifth and Sixth grade classes continue to finish their Mihrab project from last month. They will then begin learning about the Harlem Renaissance, and they will create grid portraits of some famous African Americans associated with this important artistic movement, like Jacob Lawrence and Romare Bearden.
